The President’s Working Group on Free Speech is seeking nominations and expressions of interest for participation from students, faculty and staff. The Group’s mandate is to develop guidelines and resources to enable the application of York’s Statement of Policy on Free Speech and to provide a forum for ongoing discussions on how best to preserve open and respectful dialogue on campus. Learn more about the Working Group, York’s Policy and how to submit your interest in a position. Deadline for nominations and expressions of interest is Friday, November 29.
Trans Awareness Week Speaker Event. Join YouTube star Stef Sanjati as she discusses growing up as a transgender woman in a small town and launching her career in entertainment. In this talk, Sanjati explains the role childhood trauma played in her career choice and perception of success, as well as the nature of the influencer industry. The event will be followed by a meet and greet and Q&A session. Wednesday, November 13, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Accolade West 205 (ACW 205).
President's Prizes in Creative Writing Competition. Get writing! The Creative Writing Department, Faculty of LA&PS and The Office of the President are looking for original pieces in the following genres: poetry, short fiction, screenplay and stageplay. Open to all undergraduate students, you can submit work to more than one category, but may only submit one work per genre. Best entry for each genre gets $400! Submission deadline: Monday, January 13, 2020, 5 p.m.
Theatre@York presents: Goodnight Desdemona (Good morning Juliet). A beloved feminist revisioning of two of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays, Othello and Romeo & Juliet. This play explores the hypothetical question: what if Shakespeare’s tragedies were actually intended to be comedies? Tickets range from $7 to $20. Show runs from Saturday, November 16 to Saturday, November 23, various times. Joseph G. Green Studio Theatre.
